Homemade Baby Toys

Below are some homemade baby toys that your baby will love and will go easy on the pocket book.

It's really not much use buying a baby a toy from the department store. The box will always end up stealing the show for you child. So if you like saving money and enjoy making things, take a look at these homemade baby toys.

Rice rattles

Place a handful of rice or pebbles inside a small plastic bottle or container. Secure the lid tightly and you have the perfect rattle. However, be sure to remove this toy once you child is capable of taking lids off.

Baby Mobiles

Mobiles are an easy toy that your baby is sure to be amused with. Decorate a coat hanger with various objects. This can be strips of fabric, soft small toys, strips of crepe paper, cut-out shapes, or anything you find interesting. Hang your mobile over baby's cot and safely out of reach.

Drums

Cans can be easily converted into your baby's first set of drums. A formula or coffee can would work perfect. You can provide a stick from a chopstick, unsharpened pencil, or something similar to lightly beat on the drum.

Sock Balls

Make a ball for your baby by rolling together a clean pair of socks into itself.

Stacking Toys

Save all of your empty lids, cereal and oatmeal boxes, and foam cups. These can be used to make various creations once your baby is at a sitting up age.

Your local park can be a great resource for fun family time. Take some bread along and you're sure to have an enjoyable venture.

A day at the zoo

Most children love animals and you can spend all day at the zoo for around the cost it takes to go to the movies. Take a picnic and enjoy the lions, elephants, and gorillas.

You Might Be Pregnant If....

Your breasts are now twice their normal size.

The monthly visitor has failed to visit.

You suddenly crave apples and pretzels (or any other unusual food for that matter).

Your mornings are often spent over the toilet bowl (morning sickness strikes again).

Exhaustion sets in after a normal day at work

Aromas that are 15 feet away now seem to be invading your space.

You sprint to the bathroom every five minutes.

#1 proof! Home pregnancy test declares that "Yes, you are pregnant." Despite any
previous threats.

In spite of all of this, often when women are asked to name what the most empowering moment of their lives was, the most common answer is giving birth.

I'm on the Jesus Diet

Drawing on the inspiration of loaves, fish, and wine, a doctor from Florida has published a self-help manual called What would Jesus Eat?. After the launch of this unique book, Jesus officially joined the US fight against fat. Eating is a lifestyle; a day-to-day routine that should sustain a healthy emotional and mental attitude and pump us with continuous energy. Ok, enough talk, are you ready for my secrets.

What would Jesus Eat?

Jesus ate a Mediterranean style cooking that hasn’t changed much in the past 2000 years. We know that Jesus ate a lot of fruit, a lot of fish, a lot of whole grains, and that he liked vegetables and olive oil. And lets not forget, every healthy Mediterranean meal is topped off with a wine of your choice. Wine is a valuable part of a healthy diet.

Whole-grains are the best form of carbohydrates and pack a powerful energy booster. Next time your at the grocery, look for pasta, pancakes, and bread that are made up of whole grains.

Feeling sluggish during the day?

Are eating habits make a large contribution to our energy levels. A balanced combination of carbohydrates, protein, and fat eaten at regular intervals will help keep your energy level high. On the other hand, not drinking enough liquids will cause you to feel fatigued and fried and fatty foods can make you feel sluggish. Cookies, candy bars, sodas, and fruit drinks will all deplete your energy levels. Because these foods are loaded with simple sugars, they cause a quick energy boost followed by a prompt decline that will often leave you more drained than before. Caffeine also has this same effect.

Foods that make you drowsy

Carbohydrates leave you feeling calm and relaxed. Ever noticed that right after lunch always seems to be the perfect time for a nap. Do avoid this drowsiness effect, pack some protein into your diet, but remember, everything in moderation.

Foods that energize

Get plenty of iron. Many women lack energy because they lack iron in their diet. This can usually be fixed with an iron supplement.

Boost your metabolism by eating once every three to four hours. Have some fruit or carrot sticks handy when you’re on the run. Our bodies increase their metabolism each time we eat. We can boost are metabolism with healthy snacks throughout the day.

Go all natural. Eating only whole, natural foods helps to maximize energy levels. Try to limit processed foods as much as possible.

Exercise. This is the number one metabolism booster. If you can do a quick walk during your lunchtime, this is sure to keep you running on high for the afternoon.

Quotes for the Day

Here are some quotes I thought you might like.

“A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for”
– Anonymous

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.”
– Anonymous quotes

“It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them.”
– Leo F. Buscaglia (American guru, tireless advocate on the power of love)

“My friend has a baby. I’m recording all the noises he makes so later I can ask him what he meant.”
– Stephen Wright

“The best inheritance a parent can give to his children is a few minutes of their time each day.”
– M. Grundler

“Let us now set forth one of the fundamental truths about marriage: the wife is in charge.”
– Bill Cosby

How to Pick the Perfect Baby Name

Naming a baby is no easy task. However, the following tips will help you give your baby his or her very first gift.

1. Religion. For some parents, religion plays a major role in choosing a baby name. Roman Catholics traditionally choose saints names. Jews traditionally choose Old Testament names. Names of deceased relatives are often chosen. Protestants often choose both Old and New Testament names.

Interesting Fact!: The majority of the people in the Western hemisphere have names from the Bible. The New Testament is a more popular source of names than the Old Testament.

2. Number of Names. You have many options when it comes to the number of names you choose for your baby. It is very common for a baby to be given three names, however, this is not mandatory. You may choose a first and last name; a first and last name and only a middle initial; initials for both first and middle names; or several middle names. Keep in mind, though, that several middle names will cause space problems for your child any time he or she fills out a form.

3. Sounds. Names are easy or hard to say depending upon the combination of letters used. A name such as Harry Berry invites potential teasing. Try this to create a nice effect: choose a first name that has the same amount of syllables as the last name. Whoopi Goldberg is a good example.

Interesting Fact!: Whoopi Goldberg’s original name is Caryn Johnson.

4. Pronunciation. Nobody likes to have their name mis-pronounced. This is an important factor to keep in mind with unique names.

5. Popularity. Choosing a popular name increases the likelihood that there will be other children in your child’s school with the same name. This may make him or her not feel as unique. However, a child with a popular name may be perceived better by peers than a child with a unique name.

6. Stereotypes. Many names create a positive or negative image. A name is often a person’s first introduction to others. Therefore, you must make careful considerations when choosing a name to fit your new baby.

7. Initials. Initials of a person’s name often spell words. If you choose to take this route, be sure that it will be a word you son or daughter will be happy with.

8. Meanings. Almost every name has a meaning. However, most people don’t know the meaning of their names. This may help in deciding between some of your favorite baby name choices.

9. Family History. Family History often comes into play when naming a baby. If you have to use a family name that you aren’t happy with, consider using it as a middle name.

10. Celebrity Names. A common source of today’s baby names comes from the names of celebrities and from the names that celebrities choose for their children. Characters from TV and movies are another popular source.

11. Make sure that the name you choose is one that your child will be able to grow with. Keep in mind that it should be applicable for all ages. Many names come with stereotypes.

12. It is important for both parents to compromise when selecting a name for your baby. However, keep in mind that you can always use two names, using one as a middle name.

Good Luck! A new baby is one of the most rewarding experiences of a lifetime.
